If you want a Basketball sim for your PC, NBA 2K10 is your only serious choice, but happily it's a good one! This game looks great, with really well animated players featuring signature moves. The game feels like a Basketball broadcast, which helps to make the whole experience immersive.
There are two new modes in NBA 2K10 - NBA Today and My Player Mode. The former gives you real up to date NBA news and results, while My Player gives you an RPG-style career. Design your own player, pick a position and style, then play through the ranks of the game up to being an NBA All-Star. For fans of Basketball this will be a really addictive element of NBA 2K10, and you certainly care more when you've invested so much time in your player.

Every year, when the NBA season starts, all basketball fans get to see the new edition of NBA 2K14, the best basketball simulator.
The 2014 edition features LeBron James, who has an entire game mode devoted to him, and celebrates the long awaited arrival of Euroleague teams. But do these new additions make NBA 2K14 the best basketball game ever?
Each NBA 2K has its own featured player, and this time, it’s LeBron James. The Miami Heat star is present throughout the game, from the cover to the video intro and music that's handpicked by the basketball star.
It's in the LeBron: Path to Greatness mode where you’ll guide his career. In a similar way to the NBA 2K11's mode was devoted to Michael Jordan, 2K14 gives you the opportunity to guide LeBron James’ career. The difference is that you won’t experience the earlier stages of LeBron’s career, as we did with Jordan, but you’ll be with him during his most recent victories.
NBA 2K14 lets you choose between two scenarios. In the first, LeBron will stay with the Miami Heat to reach the peak of his career or in the second, he’ll join another team. In both cases, many challenges are waiting for you, with LeBron who can brag about statistics that reach almost 99%.
Unfortunately, this mode is no more than a succession of games with a script too linear to be convincing. It would’ve been much better if you could choose LeBron’s team, but you can’t.
Another important innovation of NBA 2K14 is the arrival of the 14 Euroleague teams. Will you be able to forget about LeBron while you take part in exhibition games with FC Barcelona, CSKA Moscow, Olympiakos, Panathinaikos, and other big European teams?
In this case, you have to follow the rules of the European league so, in particular, the defensive three second rule of the NBA disappears. What we don’t like is that you have to settle for playing only quick games, in the absence of a game mode devoted entirely to the Euroleague teams.
Last, we shouldn’t forget that these two new options are only an addition to a game that was already solid. NBA 2K14 still comes with all the classic modes of the franchise: My Player, My Career, online mode, and training.
These modes haven’t evolved, but they are the ones that have made this game become the number one NBA game we all know. On the other hand, My Team mode is back. With this mode, you can take part in online tournaments with your friends and the player you created in My Player mode.
NBA 2K14 comes with several gameplay improvements. You’ll notice the most important one if you are using a controller to play, as it involves using of the right analog stick (Pro Stick), that will let you do just about anything with the ball: show-stopping moves or intricate shots.
These changes try to make the game accessible to new players by offering more intuitive controls. However, you must be careful not to hold the analog stick for too long when you want to make a fake shot because you run the risk of shooting by mistake. If you use it together with the left trigger, the control lever allows you to make no-look passes to your teammates.
Users can take advantage of additional movements either to block or pass the ball (between the legs, behind the back, bounce pass). The blocking system has been perfected and we like it, as it lets you intercept the ball and block (chase-down blocks). There are no more ghost arms blocking the ball!
The artificial intelligence has also been perfected, so it’s much harder to break the defense. It's more robust and better positioned around the free throw area, so it will be more difficult to overcome. From now on, mediocre players can’t just aim for the basket, but must find space and the right combinations to throw the ball or to overcome blockers.
With a press of a button you can get tactical help, and it will display a gray circle in the position on the court where the player with the ball, or one of his teammates, should be to have a higher chance of scoring.
Overall, the game sensation of NBA 2K14 is great with a wide range of strategy and controls.
Presentation has always been one of the core strengths of NBA 2K series. Every year, Visual Concepts do its best to offer an experience that is similar to watching an NBA game on TV.
The introduction scenes, the audience cheering, and commentators with 3,000 new animations help create a great atmosphere both on the court and on the other side of the screen.
New animations show players’ reactions in more detail: their excitement after a great shot or frustration on the bench after a bad pass. Those who like watching the NBA games may even recognize the movements and the attitudes of certain players, thanks to Signature Moves.
In addition, NBA 2K14 has fixed several bugs, especially for blocks and rebounds (before the ball passed through arms). Now everything works and players react in a more realistic way to each situation.
As for the soundtrack, LeBron handpicked the playlist. Kanye West, Nas, Daft Punk, Gorillaz, and many more will join you in the game, along with the voices of the commentators Steve Kerr, Kevin Harlan, and Clark Kellogg. As always, NBA 2K14 is only in English.
NBA 2K14 isn't a huge step forward, but it has always had solid content and provides a sense of unparalleled gaming.
New animations offer greater realism and we're happy to see the arrival of Euroleague teams, despite the absence of a dedicated game mode.
But is NBA 2K14 truly the best basketball game? Yes, and it’s easy to see why, since it’s the only good game available after the NBA Live series stopped. However, EA Sports could decide to launch a PC version of this game, which is coming back for PS4 and Xbox One after so many years. The golden age of NBA 2K14 could end soon!

NBA 2K is back, boasting lots of new features, graphics, and game modes. Lots has gone into the game and it shows, but does the popular franchise live up to its highly-acclaimed predecessors?
If you want to play with a team normally through a season, NBA 2K15 has the revamped MyLeague mode. Similar to the association mode in 2K13, you can completely customize your league, right down to the A.I.’s intelligence regarding player trades. MyLeague features all the NBA teams, but you can also select classic teams such as the ’90-91 Trailblazers and 25 teams from the Euroleague are also available. Ever wonder what it would be like to have FC Barcelona in the NorthWest division or a young Michael Jordan to face off against Lebron? You can manually adjust the teams in the association or season modes to make your dream league.
Unlike 2K14 where you were a first round draft pick, you’ll have to earn your spot on a team through a 10-day contract in the MyCareer mode. You also have more of a choice in which team you play for which will prevent situations where (based on your position) you could get drafted to a team and stuck on their bench behind players like Kevin Durant or Lebron James.
Another interesting feature of MyCareer is the mentor system. When you a join a team, one of your teammates will take you under their wing and give you advice. The game uses actual voice recordings from the players which adds a nice dimension to the game. Granted, the voice-acting ability varies from player to player but it still adds a nice touch of realism.
If you’re interested in being the mastermind behind a successful franchise, NBA 2K15 offers up the MyGM mode, which gives you plenty of control over a franchise. In this mode you’ll speak with players and owners as you try and build a championship team. Essentially, this mode is similar to the popular Football Manager games. The game offers plenty of control of the team without it becoming tedious. But if you’re into micromanagement, you can change things such as the athletic trainer and ticket prices.
Being GM means that you have to deal with the needs of the players. Sometimes players will approach you and complain about the intensity of practice or their role on the team. These are displayed through dialogs that take place in your office. During games, you can watch a play-by-play counter of what’s happening and decide to jump in at any point.
The online MyPark mode has returned in NBA 2K15. It features you taking your player to team up with others and face off against other teams at parks. I didn’t have much of a chance to test this feature because I had trouble finding other players. The idea of finding a virtual pickup basketball team does sound promising. though.
Unfortunately the online problems aren’t limited to the MyPark mode; the game is hampered across the board by the notoriously bad 2K servers. Players have reported that they have had to wait through long connection times and suffered through laggy games. These aren’t new issues and have plagued previous NBA 2K games. 2K has said it's working on it and hopefully it will be sorted out soon.
If you’ve played 2K14, then you should be at home with the controls. From a gameplay perspective, controlling your team’s offense and defense have been updated. NBA 2K15 has a “points of emphasis” system which provides an excellent way to manage style of play. For example, a point of emphasis on offense could be running all plays through Derrick Rose. A defensive point of emphasis could be crashing the boards.
You have the option of setting these manually during timeouts, or you can let your coach adjust it throughout the game. This an underrated feature of the game which allows you to set the tone or follow the coach’s direction while keeping the game ever-changing and dynamic. It's a welcome change from past 2K games, which struggled to find a balance between no control and micromanagement of plays.
The sometimes painstaking process of learning a player’s shot motion has been simplified with the addition of a shot meter in NBA 2K15. Previously, you had the highest chance of making a shot by releasing the ball when the player was at the peak of his jump. This proved to be incredibly troublesome with players who have an unorthodox shooting motion like Kevin Martin. Now, an intuitive meter is displayed below each player with a line that indicates how long you should hold the shot stick. This makes playing with random players satisfying rather a frustrating experience.
The graphics aren’t a huge step up from the next gen version of NBA 2K14, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t still spectacular. The astonishing level of detail that has gone into players is remarkable: sweat builds up on their brow, goose bumps appear on their arm, and Chris Andersen’s tattoos and beard pop off the screen.
The players aren’t the only ones who have received the graphical upgrade in NBA 2K15. Coaches, cheerleaders, and even the mascots have all been improved. The players still look strikingly better than the coaches when they stand next to them, but it’s nice not to have HD quality players standing next to their bland and expressionless coaches, as in previous versions.
NBA 2K15 sounds as good as it looks. It features the best commentary that you’ll find in any sports game with realistic play-by-play and color commentary from the returning team of Clark Kellog, Kevin Harlan, and Steve Kerr. Another excellent touch to the game is the addition of pre-game commentary with Inside the NBA’s Ernie Johnson and NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal. Thousands of audio clips have been recorded by both of them. Coaches are also interviewed (with their real voices!) during half time.
The soundtrack for the game is another shining point of the game. Unlike last year’s soundtrack which was curated by Lebron, NBA 2K15’s tunes have been chosen by ultra-popular musician/producer Pharrell Williams. It features an eclectic mix of music featuring artists and groups such as No Doubt, A Tribe Called Quest, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. You can listen to the music while playing games through the settings menu.
It would be easy to knock the down score for NBA 2K15 for its – and let’s be frank – inexcusable online problems. However, every other area of the game has been drastically improved compared to its predecessors and in this case, the pros far outweigh the cons.

NBA 2K16 continues to bring us, year after year, a realistic basketball experience. But beyond its teams, next generation graphics, and plethora of modes, this year the famed basketball simulator is notable for something else: the new Career Mode. Is this what we've been waiting for?
Whereas other editions of NBA 2K focused on improving their graphics and playability, the 2K16 edition goes beyond: a reformulation of the My Career mode.
In last years iteration you could begin by losing the draft and having to work up to being hired by an NBA team, but this year 2K Sports took it much farther by putting you in the shoes of a university student just starting to get noticed by universities and the draft alike, ready to be noticed and become an NBA legend.
Now don't think you have to play a complete year of university basketball under the NCAA (perhaps next year...) but you are at least given the chance to summarize it in four matches with the appropriate corresponding rules.
2K Sports didn't just want to make this aspect more professional, but also wanted to follow the player in his day-to-day life. A welcome surprise, since the Career Mode is directed by Spike Lee, you'll find yourself thrown into an unimaginable series of events.
You begin as the son of a poor African American family from a run-down neighborhood with a twin sister who teaches you basketball. You'll also come across plenty of cinematic scenes of your parents talking up what a nice boy you are, of course, not to mention how much you've sacrificed. Topics that, if you have the game scan your face or you pick a different ethnicity, are likely to come across quite strange. You can always wave it away as a fluke of genetics, but it can easily result in awkwardness.
Despite these hiccups, My Career continues to be a good mode with fresh ideas, though it would've been nice to be able to interact with the story characters. You will at least get the chance to make important professional decisions in the course of your story however. As a plus, you also get to experience cameos from real players who offer you their assistance throughout the course of your adventure. How would you like to have Stephen Curry be your mentor?
Even though the new My Career mode is a great base for NBA 2K16, rest assured that 2K Games hasn't rested on its laurels for the other modes. You'll also find My Team, similar to Ultimate Team from
As far as teams are concerned, you'll not only find all the usual teams from the actual NBA, but you'll also get 12 classic teams, like the Dallas Mavericks from 2003 and the Portland Trail Blazers from 2000 as a bonus. Fans of European basketball aren't left out either, you'll find the same 25 teams from the Euroleague that we already saw in
2K Sports continues to tweak NBA 2K and in this version we find two new and interesting changes. On one hand, "strong" defense and the ability to attack are handled by the same button, which makes both techniques much more intuitive.
On the other hand, if you hold down one of the buttons continuously you'll see a basketball symbol showing you the possible passes and movements of certain players (assigned by button). This makes it much easier for the player visualize all the possible plays and to pull off impressive assists.
We would be remiss if we didn't also mention the graphical aspects of NBA 2K16. 2K Sports brings it yet again, offering up detailed courts and amazing facial animations for players that could quite possibly be the most realistic we've seen in a sports game. Though we'd like to mention that it's more noteworthy on the Xbox 720 and PS4; this year they've dropped the ball a bit with their PC "port".
NBA 2K16 shows itself once again to be absolutely required for fans of simulated basketball. Its rich selection of modes, realism, and nods to the past make it a very tempting title.
